Dhaka, September 2, 2012. A five-day long international workshop on `Tools and Tactics of People Engagement’ began in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka today.
Hosted by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and jointly organized by TIB and Transparency International Secretariat (TIS), 20 visiting participants are joined by some 15 TIB representatives in this workshop aimed at facilitating identification, adaptation and replication of successful tools, approaches and tactics of people engagement throughout the TI movement.
Participants are from: Cambodia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, Morocco, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Bangladesh and TI-Secretariat.
The visiting participants will travel for two days to Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj during September 3-4 for experiencing firsthand how TIB has been conducting a social movement against corruption through its twin network of volunteers: Committee of Concerned Citizens (CCC) and Youth Engagement and Support (YES).
It may be mentioned that TIB’s 5500 strong volunteer’s network uses several social accountability tools such as mother’s gathering, face-the public, advice and information desk, open budget and street theatres to create demand for a responsive and accountable governance in the service delivery in health, education and local governance sectors.
The workshop is expected to contribute to strengthening of further horizontal learning and networking among the TI-Chapters to share best practices and innovative ideas and to devise ways of more robust and effective people engagement in the participating chapters and beyond.
