debate6.pngTo mark the International Anti-Corruption Day, 2006, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has organized the first ever parliamentary style debate competition in Dhaka. The aim of the competition was to develop leadership among the youth through raising awareness on various issues and to stimulate a dialogue on anti- corruption and good governance through an ideal and effective parliament.

The competition took place on 29-30 November 2006 at different venues of East West University and North South University. More than 180 participants from different colleges and universities around the country took part in the competition. To select the best 30 debaters from the participants, a Freestyle debate competition was held on the first day. On the second day, the selected 30 contenders were divided into two parties, the Government and the opposition, and debated on a bill following the procedures of an ideal parliament. The parliamentary style debate was held at the Brac Center Inn, Mohakhali, Dhaka. Prof. Dr. Asif Nazrul, Department of Law, Dhaka University conducted the parliamentary session as the Honorable Speaker.

To make this event a success, apart from East West University and North South University, the other partners of TIB were Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and Ruqayyah Bitarka Angon. Prominent TV Channel Bangla Vision and two National Dailies, The Daily Star and Prothom Alo also partnered with TIB in this initiative.
