Corruption cost government around Tk. 4400 crore last year
TIB in its 4th News Scan Analysis revealed that at least 440 cases of corruption by government officials caused a loss of more than Tk. 4391 crore to the government in 2002. The News Scan report identified the law enforcing agencies as the most corrupt and local government as the second and education as the third most corrupt sectors. The report was launched through a press conference at the Tennis Complex auditorium in Rajshahi on 31st March, 2003. Professor Muzaffer Ahmad, member, Board of Trustees, TIB, addressed the press conference. Abdul Alim, Research Associate and Mohammed Imam Uddin, Media Outreach Relations Officer, TIB were also present at the occasion. BBC Bengali Service made coverage on the findings of the News Scan Analysis report. Most of the national dailies extensively covered the findings of the report on the following day (1st April, 2003).
