Manzoor Hasan made an officer of the British Empire
Manzoor Hasan has won a place on the Queen's birthday honours list this year. British Prime Minister Tony Blair released the list yesterday. "To be included in the Queen's Official Birthday Honours' List is an appropriate and timely recognition of the activities of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB). I am personally humbled to be given the Officer of British Empire (OBE) and this will be a source of inspiration for the future", says Mr. Manzoor Hasan.
The Order of the British Empire is the order of chivalry of the British democracy. The Order of the British Empire was created_at during the First World War in 1917 by George V. From 1918 onwards these were awarded in acknowledgement of distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the Civil Service and work with charitable and welfare organizations of all kinds. Valuable service is the only criterion for the award, and the Order is now used to reward service in a wide range of useful activities. Citizens from other countries may also receive an honorary award, for services rendered to the United Kingdom and its people.
Mr. Hasan is currently the Regional Director, Asia/Pacific, at the International Secretariat of Transparency International based in Berlin, Germany. He was the Executive Director of TIB for more than six years from 1996. He graduated from the London School of Economics and was then called to the English Bar as a member of the Honorable Society of Lincoln's Inn, London. Mr. Hasan practiced as a barrister in England and Bangladesh prior to joining Transparency International.
