DFID team inspection
A team from the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom visited Mymensingh to inspect the activities of local CCC and AIC (Advice and Information Center) on June 19. They praised the efforts of the CCC members and the various activities the committee undertakes for establishing good governance at the local level. Those present on the occasion included TIB Programme Specialist Abu Zayed Mohammed, Research officer Sydur Rahman Molla, the Convener of Mymensingh CCC Professor Shamsul Islam, Member Md. Momtaz Uddin, A. H. M. Khalequzzaman, Advocate Emdadul Hoque Millad and others. The DFID delegation included Elizabeth Jones, Sarah White and Suman Islam.
Tea Party for Union Parishad Chairmen & Members in CCC areas
TIB and the Nalitabari CCC arranged a tea party in honor of the newly elected Chairmen and Members of Nalitabari on 22 June at the Taraganja Pilot High School. Member of the TIB Board of Trustees Professor Muzaffer Ahmad was present as chief guest. Professor Ahmed urged the Union Parishad Chairmen and Members to unite people to resolve local problems. " I dreamt of a Bangladesh that would be ruled by 4,465 UP" he said.
Chaired by the CCC convenor M A Hakam Hira, those who spoke on the occasion included Upazilla Nirbahi Officer, Nazmul Hasan Khan, Municipality Chairman Abdul Hakim Ukil, Programme Officer of TIB Ekram Hossain, Officer in Charge of Nalitabari Thana Elahi Baksh, Chairmen of Jugania and Poragaon Union Parishad Dr. Moazzem Hossain Acha and Sahaz Uddin, CCC member Professor Probhat Chandra Paul.
TIB and the Mymensingh Sadar CCC organized a tea party for the newly elected Chairmen and Members of Mymensingh Sadar on 21 June at the upazilla conference room. Delwar Hossain Khan (Dulu) MP (Member of Parliament) was present as chief guest. Chaired by the CCC Convenor Professor Shamsul Islam, the Chairmen and women members of the Upazilla, Programme Specialist of TIB Abu Zayed Mohammed, CCC members, government officials, journalists, teachers, doctors, and NGO activists, were present on the occasion.
A tea party organized by TIB and the Kishoreganj Sadar CCC on 26 June at the Upazilla auditorium in honor of newly elected chairmen and members. CCC member Advocate Ashoke Sarker presided over the programme. It was addressed by CCC Convenor Khurshed Uddin Bhuiyan, journalist Shah Azizul Hoque, social worker Amiruzzaman and TIB Programme Officer Ekram Hossain.
A similar tea party was held at the R K high school of Muktagacha Upazilla on 26 June. TIB and Muktagacha CCC organized the programme in honor of the newly elected Chairmen and members of sadar Upazilla. Chaired by the CCC convenor Advocate Shamsul Hoque, Upazilla Nirbahi Officer Mohammed Faruque Alam was present as chief guest. Representatives from various professions were present at the tea party. Programme Specialist of TIB Abu Zayed Mohammed, local politician Abu Reja Fazlul Hoque Babul, Shahjahan Ali Khan, CCC member Mahbubur Rahman Bulbul, Principal Sapan Kumar Das and Ekhlasur Rahman Jewel, spoke on the occasion.
People's Theatre
A performance of the peoples play "Lal Sabujer Deshe (The Land of Red and Green) was performed on 25 June at Shambuganj bazar of Mymensing. An audience of around seven hundred spectators enjoyed the show.
Workshop at Jamalpur
The Jamalpur CCC and TIB organized a workshop on 'the Role of the Citizens for Establishing Transparency and Accountability at the Local Level on 25 June at the Jamalpur Regional Agricultural Research training centre. Adv. Mohammad Nazrul Islam (Dulu), convenor of CCC Jamalpur presided over the workshop. Around 50 representatives from various professions were present at the workshop. Programme Specialist of TIB Abu Zayed Mohammad was the facilitator of the workshop.
