Induction of new Committees of Concerned Citizens (CCCs) held
The induction of the executive committees of new CCCs of Rangpur, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat areas was held on 16 September 2004 at the RDRS Auditorium in Rangpur. Samson H. Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, TIB was present as the chief guest.
The TIB Chairman in his speech underscored the necessity of creating awareness at the grassroots level to fight corruption. It is through our unity that we can fight together, Mr. Chowdhury said. He also gave emphasis to the education sector saying that it is through education that a nation can prosper.
The program also was addressed, among others, by TIB's Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, its Senior Program Officer Ekram Hossain and Conveners of the new CCCs.
CCC Activities
In Mymensingh and Modhupur CCC areas, two conventions of the mothers were held. The first convention was held in Mymensingh Sadar on 19 September organized jointly by CCC and TIB. Held at a local primary school, this unique convention was participated by a large number of mothers. A similar program was also arranged in Modhupur, Tangail on 23 September. Both these programs were convened to create awareness among the mothers and to build a bridge between the parents and the teachers. The teachers and members of the managing committees of the schools were also present.
On 23 September, a meeting was held between the CCC of Jamalpur and the UNO of Jamalpur to discuss the recently released report of TIB on Union Parishads. The local UNO termed the report of TIB as authentic and promised to improve the services of the Union Parishad. TIB's Program Organizer Al Amin Miah was present during this meeting.
