Young Professionals against Corruption (YPAC) launched
Dhaka, 15 December 2012: A network named Young Professionals against Corruption (YPAC) was launched here today with a vow to spearhead anti-corruption social movement across the country. During its formal launching in the conference room of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), YPAC members condemned recent brutal killing of a young professional Biswajit Dash and demanded judicial investigation to bring those responsible into justice.
YPAC has been launched with young professionals of the country following an initiative of TIB. The members are initially drawn from former members of Youth Engagement and Support (YES) who have now entered into their professional careers. YES is a youth initiative of TIB, which has been successfully campaigning against corruption through various social mobilization activities in 45 locations of the country and also in the capital Dhaka. Gradually YPAC membership will be opened up to non-YES members and other professionals to produce a critical mass of young professionals ready to challenge corruption in Bangladesh.
Inaugurating the formal launch, TIB’s Executive Director hoped YPAC’s journey will help young professionals to raise their voices against the menaces of corruption prevailing at various professional sectors. He criticized the government’s move to create confusions about the identities of the murderers and termed it as ill-motivated and unacceptable. “The government should bring the criminals to justice without any delay rather creating a debate on whether they were members of their party or the opposition,” Dr. Iftekhar added.
