In a dynamic and inspirational gathering, the three-day anti-corruption Youth Engagement and Support (YES) camp in Sylhet displayed unwavering dedication to constructing a prosperous, well-governed Bangladesh in line with the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War. Demonstrating a resolute commitment to tackling corruption, poverty, injustice and discrimination, the YES Camp took place on 7-9 October 2023 under the theme ‘Corruption, Poverty, Injustice: Thoughts of the Youth’.
Youth Unite for Change
Nearly 300 members from 19 YES groups across Sylhet, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions, nurtured under the guidance of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), took part in the impactful event.
Inspiration and Oath
TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman was the keynote speaker of the event, igniting the crowd with the call for an anti-corruption oath. He focused on the devastating impact of corruption, encompassing increased inequality, gender disparities, and stifled development. Dr. Zaman delved into the challenges posed by corruption as well as emphasised the crucial role of youth in the anti-corruption movement. He reiterated the Prime Minister's commitment to combat corruption, and urged for legal prosecution of corrupt individuals, expressing hope that the dream of a corruption-free Bangladesh could become a reality through the efforts of young people.
Youth as Agents of Change
On the second day, a discussion - ‘Invincible Youth: Volunteerism, Ethics, and Leadership’ - showcased the vital role of youth unity and volunteerism in the fight against corruption. The distinguished panellists underscored the historical significance of youth in achieving national milestones and their shared responsibility in eradicating corruption.
Promoting Equality and Justice
The final day's discussion - ‘Justice, Human Rights, and Gender Sensitivity’ - emphasised the importance of moral conduct and gender sensitivity. Acknowledging corruption's disproportionate impact on women, the young people were encouraged to envision a gender-sensitive society while striving for a corruption-free nation.
Youth Voices Resonate
Young participants from diverse YES groups shared their experiences, demonstrating a commitment to overcoming obstacles and contributing to a corruption-free Bangladesh. The YES camp in Sylhet concluded with an atmosphere of optimism and resolution, as the participants emerged as dedicated agents of change in their quest for a better society.
