Biography

Mahfuz Anam is a Founding Trustee and currently the Treasurer of Transparency International Bangladesh. He completed his MA in Economics from the University of Dhaka. He is well-known being adjudged the best debater of the country of his time in the university. He achieved expertise in media planning and media development, from a long career as journalist, editor and publisher in Bangladesh and as a media expert for UNESCO.

Today Anam is the editor and publisher of the Daily Star, the largest English daily of the country. He is also a TV commentator and interviewer, invited to interview the highest level dignitaries. He is regularly invited to speak in regional and international fora on governance, human rights, press freedom and related issues.

Reputed for his journalistic and editorial excellence across South and Southeast Asian region, Anam was elected in 2007 as chairman of Asia News Network (ANN), based in Seoul. He is also a founding member of the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation.
